Technical and infrastructural developments leave a significant mark on both urban and rural landscapes. Before projects of this scale can be realised, authorities often require an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) – an evaluation of the development’s impact on the environment. Visual and spatial assessments are central to this process and form an important foundation for ensuring that new developments are placed and integrated harmoniously into their surroundings.

High-Speed Railway Line across West Funen
West Funen, Denmark
A new 35 km long high-speed railway across West Funen will help reduce travel time between Denmark's largest cities. The track will pass through an area with many wind turbines and high-voltage power lines. At the same time, the area is characterized by a significant change in terrain between large open areas and stretches of hilly terrain.
The project is developed in connection with an EIA report and includes a landscape analysis based on the Landscape Character Method (LKM) and landscape impact assessments of alignments. Furthermore, Gottlieb Paludan Architects has developed concept designs for planting, terrain regulation, noise barriers, wildlife passages and bridges.
