Energy & Industry

A well-functioning society with a high level of activity and comfort is closely linked to a secure and sustainable energy supply and a well-functioning industry. Developing and designing the physical infrastructure of the energy and industrial sectors is an important area of work and a key professional task for us. The integration of these facilities with cities and landscapes plays a particularly important role.

Our approach is rooted in solid professional knowledge and we emphasise creating beautiful architecture that not only solves technical challenges, but also contributes positively to society and the green transition.

Building and Landscape

Energy projects are not just about technology and function – sometimes, they are also landscape projects. Whether the facility is located in the open countryside or in an urban context, its relationship with the surroundings is crucial to the overall quality of the solution. We work across all scales – from new builds to renovations and transformations, from large facilities in rural settings to smaller installations in the city. In the open landscape, the interplay between buildings and their surroundings is of central importance. The right siting of structures can greatly influence outcomes, and the landscape itself can be activated in ways that benefit the business, employees, local communities, and the climate. In urban settings, the primary task of technical facilities is to demonstrate both sensitivity and integrity within the cityscape. Here, the human scale is the measure by which buildings should be designed, and we always aim to create closeness and opportunities for interaction between the public and the facility.

Our approach

The energy and industrial sectors are defined by complex technical requirements. Safe and flexible operation and sound lifecycle economics are non-negotiable. At Gottlieb Paludan Architects, we understand that technical and organisational needs evolve over time – and we have the insight and experience to ensure that our architecture proves its long-term value when facilities are extended, adapted, or transformed. Our architectural tools are often more understated than spectacular, but they always take their starting point in function and context. Technical constraints act as a creative driver, which we use to elevate what is given, possible and reasonable into an architectural expression that interacts positively with its surroundings. Renovations and transformations must be respectful of what already exists, while also setting a clear architectural direction – one that trusts the present and aspires for the future.

What can you expect as a client or parnter?

As a client, you can expect professionalism and close engagement. We prioritise dialogue and collaboration to ensure that your needs and ambitions remain central throughout the process. Our goal is to deliver solutions that not only meet functional requirements, but also add value through well-considered design.

Designing effective solutions in the energy and industrial sectors requires a specialised skillset – combining technical insight into complex systems with the ability to integrate them meaningfully into urban or natural landscapes. At Gottlieb Paludan Architects, we aim to strike a balance between technical precision and aesthetic clarity, ensuring durable and high-performing results.

We provide consultancy and design services from the early concept stages through to completed construction. Our approach is based on open dialogue and close collaboration with the client. We focus on bringing clarity to complex projects, ensuring that our solutions are both functional and visually coherent. Every project is optimised through interdisciplinary collaboration.

Our experience

Gottlieb Paludan Architects has advised a wide range of clients in the energy and industrial sectors since the 1940s. With hundreds of completed projects, we have developed unique expertise in this field. Our portfolio includes power plants, district heating and cooling facilities, waste-to-energy plants, data centres, logistics hubs, and manufacturing sites. We also design associated operational and support functions, such as control rooms, laboratories, workshops, and administrative offices. In recent years, we have contributed to a number of high-profile projects that have helped make the transition from fossil fuels to renewable energy a visible and tangible reality for the public – not just a technical shift behind the scenes.
