Space-saving bike stand for the urban space at Nørreport Station

Nørreport bicycle stand
Copenhagen, Denmark

Gottlieb Paludan Architects, in collaboration with COBE, has developed a new space-saving bike rack for the urban space at Nørreport Station. Gottlieb Paludan Architects was responsible for all architectural work in connection with the renovation of Nørreport Station, including optimizing bicycle parking in the busy urban space.

The bikes are compressed by placing two on each stand, overlapping the wheels. The optimal use of space is achieved when the bike stands are placed close together and rotated 45 degrees.

The characteristic feature of the Nørreport Bike Stand is the slender column and the bicycle hangers bent in one piece in a V-shape. The bike stand can be customized with one or two brackets and the option of mounting a solar lamp, spotlight or a closed top.

Innovative lighting and design of bike racks at Nørreport

At Nørreport, the bike racks are made of stainless steel and the solar lights at the top of the bike racks turn on when it gets dark and stand like a thousand stars in a row, while spots in other bike racks illuminate the underside of the cloud-shaped bike covers.

The bike racks are placed in sunken concrete beds that ensure flow and sightlines in the station square.

Gottlieb Paludan Architects and COBE received the 2015 Push-Up Award for the innovative design.
