Future food production must be both sustainable and industrial

The global population explosion stretches our natural resources and the demand for food cannot be met with conventional methods. If food production is to have any chance keeping up with population growth, we will have to rethink our agricultural practices. This is why Gottlieb Paludan Architects has been collaborating with Nee Rentz-Petersen, architect and PhD, to develop the ‘Greenhouse Pigs’ project which proposes combining pig production and greenhouse horticulture, so waste products from one production may be utilized as nutrients in the other, and moving the farms of the future into urban settings in order to utilize the infrastructure of industrial estates.

The exhibition casts a critical eye on the global food industry and presents visions for sustainable food production developed by designers, architects and researchers from all over the world. You can read more about the exhibition and GPA’s development project here.
