New transport hub for Vesterbro and Carlsberg City

Metro & Railway

Carlsberg Station
Carlsberg, Denmark

Gottlieb Paludan Architects are the architects of Carlsberg Station, which has replaced Enghave Station and thus become a traffic hub for both outer Vesterbro and Carlsberg City.

Enghave Station has been moved west to the entrance of Carlsberg Byen to optimize the station's location in relation to the walking and cycling distances of the future customer base. This ensures the connection between station and catchment area and gives the neighborhood a service boost.

In the design of the station, emphasis has been placed on creating a seamless connection with the neighborhood and the district's central square.

Integrated station design with focus on accessibility and high passenger capacity

The station is incorporated into a large, cantilevered deck that connects the urban space behind the Carlsberg area with the platforms and provides space for seating and bicycle parking. Access roads are integrated into this main architectural concept and create a seamless expression. The entire station complex is developed with a focus on legibility, accessibility and safety. It is estimated that the daily number of passengers at Carlsberg station will be around 24,000. At the University College UCC alone, which is located in the immediate vicinity of the station, almost 11,000 students and teachers will have their daily walk.
In the design of the station, emphasis has been placed on creating a seamless connection with the neighborhood and the central square of the district.

Everyone should be able to move through our shared public spaces and buildings in a safe and dignified way. In complex environments such as stations, terminals, and other public transport hubs, universal design is not just a feature – it’s a fundamental design principle that ensures equal access and high functionality for all, regardless of physical or cognitive ability.

Lighting is an indispensable part of our daily lives. It shapes the environments in which we live and work, and has a significant impact on our well-being. When the lighting is right, it supports our activities, creates a sense of security, and enhances the visual experience of the spaces we inhabit. This is why it is crucial that lighting design is planned with care and insight to support both function and aesthetics in our spaces and buildings.

Cycling plays a vital role in the cities of tomorrow. It offers a smart response to urban congestion, pollution, and sedentary lifestyles — while strengthening mobility in both city centers and surrounding areas. A well-designed cycling environment makes it easy to choose the bike for everyday travel and connects key functions across the urban landscape.
