The control room is the central nerve of technical facilities – the place from which everything from energy production and distribution to traffic and complex industrial processes is monitored and managed. A well-designed control room provides clarity, supports quick decision-making, and contributes to safe and stable operations – even under pressure.

Control Room at DONG Energy
Virum, Denmark
In 2012, DONG Energy moved its Grid Center to its headquarters in Teknikerbyen in Virum. Netcenter is a control center where the electricity grid and distribution in the Greater Copenhagen area is monitored and controlled.
The users' experiences of their physical working environment, especially during night work, led to special attention being paid to the lighting. The circular desk - the only round element in the main seating arrangement - is complemented by the round lighting fixture that users call 'the halo'.
Lighting design and space creation in functional architecture
The acoustic dampening panels on the back wall, decorated with large-scale graphics of oak trees, are illuminated separately to achieve a reassuring effect that the room does not end in darkness even when the general lighting is switched off.
The individual employee regulates the different lighting elements from his or her workstation and thus arranges the environment to meet the need for safety and comfort.
