The Sydhavn Metro, feasibility study and concept design
Sydhavn, Copenhagen, Denmark

Gottlieb Paludan Architects designs five stations on a new Metro line serving the Sydhavn district of Copenhagen. We also conducted a feasibility study preceeding the decision to build a new branch of the Metro.

The new Metro line will run through the urban development areas of Enghave Brygge, Teglholmen and Sluseholmen together with the old district of Sydhavn (‘The Southern Harbour’) and terminate at the existing Ny Ellebjerg Station.

New stations and urban development in Copenhagen

The Sydhavn Metro will have stations at Fisketorvet, Enghave Brygge, Sluseholmen and Mozarts Plads as well as a terminus at Nye Ellebjerg Station, where you can change to regional and S-trains. Gottlieb Paludan Architects' services included architectural work and studies in connection with the urban integration of the new line as well as the principle design of forecourts and stations in a number of different scenarios. The Sydhavn Metro was approved by the Danish Parliament in February 2015. It is expected to be operational in 2024 and to have around 43,000 daily passengers.

Udforsk

Everyone should be able to move through our shared public spaces and buildings in a safe and dignified way. In complex environments such as stations, terminals, and other public transport hubs, universal design is not just a feature – it’s a fundamental design principle that ensures equal access and high functionality for all, regardless of physical or cognitive ability.

Udforsk

Our cities and landscapes must accommodate a wide range of functions, interests, and concerns – from urban development and infrastructure to nature conservation and climate adaptation. This places high demands on the prioritization, planning, and siting of new developments and structures. Urban and landscape analyses provide a comprehensive overview of physical, regulatory, and contextual conditions and form a critical basis for decision-making in the early project stages.
